Identification
Adults can grow up to 63 cm but are usually more around 52 cm. Small rattle on tail, small triangular head. Ground coloration grey with dark edges on scales. Oval black blotches on back and black spots on side. Orange spots on back.

Range and habitat
Subspecies occurs in eastern central USA, from Mississippi to Texas, north to Oklahoma and Tennessee. Species also found from North Carolina to Florida. Lives in mixed forests, grasslands in floodplains, near lakes and rivers.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species has a large range and seems to be fairly common to locally abundant in suitable habitat. It doesn’t face any threats at the moment.
