Identification
The species can grow to a length of 70 cm, males being smaller. Head is triangular and broad with slightly upturned snout. Ground coloration grey to beige with flanks markings and dark saddle markings on back. Thin orange dorsal line.
Range and habitat
This species occurs in Central America, from Guatemala to north-western and central Costa Rica. Lives in dry and moist forests, lowlands and premontane, thorn scrub, to 1400 m.

Status : The species has a fairly large range and remains locally common. Forest fires and deforestation are known threats for the species’ long term survival.
