Identification
This stout-bodied species can reach up to 57 cm in length, usually smaller. Large triangular head with upturned snout. Head is uniform brown. Body light brown with dark brown saddles. Thin orange-brown longitudinal line from head to tail.

Range and habitat
This species is endemic to southern Mexico, occurring from south-west Oaxaca to western Chiapas. Lives in tropical deciduous forests with short thorny trees, up to 700 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species is still quite widespread and common within its limited range. Loss of habitat because of agricultural expansion is a medium-term threat.
