Identification
The species reaches up to 150 cm in length. Large viper with a stout body and compact triangular head. Ground color is beige to grey with black-edged dark brown losange markings on back, flanks and top of head.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in South-west Asia, from Syria and Jordan to Israel and Palestine. Lives in open oak forests, semi-arid country, agricultural lands.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species is still relatively common in most of its range despite being persecuted in some places. Collection for animal trade is minimal.
