Identification
Adults can reach a length of 1 m, generally less. Very wide triangular head. Coloration is speckled to mottled grey-beige to grey-brown with indistinct dark blotches and bands on back and flanks. Tail is cream with irregular black bands.
Range and habitat
The species is found in North America and is endemic to Mexico, only occurring in the southern half of Baja California peninsula and nearby islands. Lives in open woodlands and scrubland in arid to semi-desertic areas.

Status : The species is fairly common where suitable habitat occurs within its range. Found in protected areas.
