Identification
Adults can reach a length of 80 cm, generally less. Head is fairly long and not so distinct from neck. black bands. This species is grey to brown with small transversal blotches and small dark spots. Light brown wide dorsal line.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in central America, in Sierra Madre Oriental and Tamaulipas in Mexico. Lives in pine-oak forests, rocky areas, grasslands and deserts in montane areas.

Conservation
IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN (as C. lepidus)
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species is fairly common in its large range and is currently facing no known threats. This newly split species has yet to be assessed on its own.
