Identification
Adults can reach a length of 80 cm, generally less. Head is fairly long and not so distinct from neck. black bands. This subspecies’ ground color varies from ashy grey to dark grey-brown. Black blotches turning into transversal bands on back.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs from south-east Arizona to Texas and north Mexico. Species found from Arizona and Texas to coastal central Mexico. Lives in pine-oak forests, rocky areas, grasslands and deserts in montane areas.

Status : The species is fairly common in its large range and is currently facing no known threats.
