Identification
Slender-bodied viper with prehensile tail, reaching a total length of 1 m. Broad triangular head. Bright green coloration with faint yellow blotches on back and flanks. Black markings around most of body. Black band from eye to neck.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in Central America and is found from Southern Mexico to Guatemala. Lives in lower montane and cloud forests, subtropical pine-oak forests.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species is declining because of habitat destruction and collection for the reptile trade. Its range is now highly fragmented.
