Identification
This subspecies usually reaches around 1.80 meters in length, often less. Coloration brown to brownish-black with black-edged bright yellow transversal bands, sometimes joining each other. Spots become whitish on lower flanks.

Range and habitat
This subspecies is endemic to southern Papua New Guinea and occurs in Irian Jaya northwards to Merauke. The species occurs in Australia and New Guinea. Lives in dry forests mostly near rivers and running water, rocky outcrops and dry woodlands, mostly in lowland.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : This species isn’t considered threatened in the wild. Some populations are declining, mostly because of destruction habitat (overgrazing).
