Identification
Very large python reaching up to 5 meters in length for a weight of 22.5 kg. Slim-bodied species with short head. Coloration olive-brown to grey-brown, sometimes becoming mustard yellow. Lips clear with black dots, flanks lighter.

Range and habitat
The species occurs on the island of New Guinea (being found throughout the island) and on nearby islands of Biak and Misool. Lives in lowland and low hilly rainforests and woodlands, to 1500 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species seems to remain common and fairly adaptable, often occurring near villages. Levels of capture for trade need to be monitored.
