Identification
Adults can grow up to 2 meters in length but are generally smaller. Small eyes, blunt head. Rough but fragile skin texture, skin being loose and wrinkly. Striking black or bluish-black coloration with yellow to white transversal bands.
Range and habitat
The species has a very large range throughout South-east Asia from India, Hainan and the Philippines to north Australia, New Guinea and Solomon Islands. Lives in shallow water areas, in mangroves, rivers and sometimes at sea.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species seems to be widespread and common throughout its range. It may be vulnerable locally to overtrapping for the pet trade.
