Identification
Adults can grow to a maximum length of 1.85 meters in length but are usually smaller. The head is elliptical with a blunt snout. Coloration usually yellowish to light brown, dark brown or even black, sometimes with bands or chevrons.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South-East Asia and is endemic to western and central Indonesia, on Java, Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa, Flores, Komodo, Alor and Lomblen. Lives in lowland savannas, rice fields, secondary forests and agricultural areas.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : So far, the species seems to be safe but it is harvested locally in large numbers and many natural habitats are now destroyed within its range.
