Identification
Adults can grow to about 1.60 meters in length. Slender body with triangular cross-section because of a dorsal ridge. Small head with small eyes. Wide bluish-black and white crossbands on whole body, with dark spotting on white bands. Black population on Java previously named B. javanicus.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South East Asia, from South Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand to Peninsular Malaysia, Java, Sumatra, Bali and Sulawesi (dubious). Lives in lowland open woodlands and plantations, close to water and rice fields.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species is listed as Least Concern as it has a very wide range but it is seriously impacted by unsustainable level of collection in some countries.
