Identification
Large slender snake, reaching up to 270 cm in length. Fairly large triangular head. Coloration is black with a variable amount of yellow and white on flanks and back. Clear scales have dark edges. Belly is mostly black.
Range and habitat
The species occurs from south Mexico throughout central America to Columbia, south to southern Brazil and Bolivia. Lives in forested areas and woodlands, often near water.

Status : The species has a huge range and remains at least locally common and globally safe. It is locally persecuted and captured for food.
