Identification
Adults can grow up to 120 cm in length. Fairly long head with large eyes. Coloration is either beige-brown or brownish-green with black edging on scales. Sides of head and neck are often yellowish. Clear belly.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in northern and central America, from extreme south USA (Arizona, New Mexico, Texas) to Mexico and Costa Rica. Subspecies found in the northern part of the range. Lives in dry grasslands and forests, canyons, mostly in lowlands.

Status : The species is fairly common within its large range and can live in a broad variety of habitats. It isn’t believed to face any threats at the moment.
