Identification
Females can reach about 1 m in length. Most subspecies have a bright red coloration. This subspecies has two broad longitudinal black bands over orange or dark red background. Juveniles display a similar coloration.

Range and habitat
This subspecies is endemic to north-east Thailand. The species can be found from eastern India to China, south to Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia. Mostly found in humid montane forests where the floor is covered with moss and leaves. Some specimens can occur above 2000 meters.

CITES : Not listed
Status : So far, the species doesn’t face any threats because it lives in remote places. Some populations in Thailand and Malaysia have a very small range.
