Identification
Females can reach about 1 m in length. Most subspecies have a bright red coloration. This subspecies has faint longitudinal lines on back and brownish-black broad transversal bands that fade off when adult.
Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in south-east China. The species can be found from eastern India to China, south to Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia. Mostly found in humid montane forests where the floor is covered with moss and leaves. Some specimens can occur above 2000 meters.

Status : So far, the species doesn’t face any threats because it lives in remote places. Some populations in Thailand and Malaysia have a very small range.
