Identification
This species usually reaches total lengths between 90 cm and 120 cm. Slender snake, head barely distinct from neck. Coloration is mostly grey, rarely sandy-beige, with dark red bands and markings on head and back, broadly edged black.
Range and habitat
This species is endemic to Mexico and occurs in most of the northern parts of the country (north to Mexico city), except north-west and Baja California. Lives in arid woodlands with rocks, grasslands and desert areas, up to 2400 m.

Status : The species is still locally common despite occasional persecution. It occurs in protected areas and has a large range.
