Identification
Fairly large kingsnake species, reaching up to 1.83 m in length. Head, back and flanks usually shiny black with a bright yellow dot (more or less big) on each scales. Belly is entirely bright yellow. Labial scales are mostly yellow with black edge.

Range and habitat
The species is endemic to the central-eastern parts of the USA, in the states of Kentucky, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. Lives in woodlands and grassy fields, often close to swamps and rivers.

Status : The species seems to be at least locally common and doesn’t face any imminent threat.
