Identification
Adults can reach up to 1.85 m in length for a weight up to at least 500 g. Large head with big round eyes, indistinct from the neck. This subspecies is olive-brown with yellowish lower flanks and belly.
Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in Central USA, from Dakota and Iowa to Texas. Species found from south Canada to most of USA, south to Mexico and Guatemala. Mostly found in dry open woodlands and shrublands, also marshes.

Status : The species remains very common in many parts of its range. Local declines have been experienced because of loss of habitat to agriculture.
