Identification
The species can grow to slightly more than 2 meters in length. Very slender body, long head with blunt snout. Coloration highly variable, from reddish-orange to grey or brown with rosette-like spots and blotches on back. Large eyes.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in South America, from eastern Colombia, Venezuela and the Guianas to south Brazil, Bolivia and Peru. Lives in lowland tropical rainforests up to 300 m above sea level.

Status : The species has a large range and remains globally common. It is locally persecuted as it looks superficially like a viper. Threatened by habitat loss.
