Identification
Adults can reach a total length (tail included) of 75 cm. Scales on its back and tail are plate-like. Coloration is mostly dark brown with transversal rows of yellow and black spots on its back and flanks. Head is speckled with yellow.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the southern half of Africa, from Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique to South Africa. Lives in open and dry habitats with rocky outcrops.

Status : The species seems to be at least fairly common within its range. No threats faced at this time.
