Identification
One of the longest monitor lizard species, reaching up to 3 meters in length with an extremely long tail and relatively slim body. Easily recognized by its squarish bulbous snout. Coloration dark green with rows of large golden spots.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in Australasia can be found throughout the island of New Guinea, including Irian Jaya and Papua. Lives in the canopy of lowland rainforests and mangrove forests.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species has a large range and seems quite common although it is rarely seen as it mostly remains very high in the forest canopy.
