Identification
One of the longest monitor lizard species, reaching up to 2 meters in length with a very long tail and a relatively slim body with long head. Coloration dark brown to black with large round white to beige spots on flanks, head and neck.
Range and habitat
The species is endemic to Australia and can be found in the central parts of the country, from coastal west Australia to south Queensland. Lives in desertic areas with rocky outcrops and gorges.

Status : The species has a large range and seems quite common although it is rarely seen because of its shyness.
