Identification
This close relative to iguanas can reach up to 25 cm in length. Small triangular grey head with brown band from eye to snout. Rest of body beige grey with red vertical bands on flanks. More or less visible blue and yellow mottling on flanks.
Range and habitat
This species is endemic to Hispaniola, occurring on Haiti and western Dominican Republic. Introduced in Florida. Mostly found in arid areas with bushes and cactus. Also in urban zones.

Status : The species is still locally common but some populations have been extirpated because of habitat loss for mining activities, in Dominican Republic.
