Notes : No subspecies known.
Identification
Adults can reach up to 100 cm in length with males bigger than females. Juveniles are yellowish-green, adults become cream with dark markings on legs and flanks. Males have black throat and bands on nape. Females are duller.
Range and habitat
This species is found in Central America and endemic to the island of San Esteban, in Gulf of California, Mexico. Lives in arid and rocky areas, with trees and cacti.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is endemic to a single island but this island is well protected along with its endemic fauna. Its populations are declining.
