Identification
Adults can grow to 4 meters in length, males being bigger than females. Snout broader than saltwater crocodile but shorter. Large ridges over eyes. Coloration blackish-grey to light tan, often with small dots giving peppered aspect.
Range and habitat
The species is found in South-East Asia, from Myanmar to Vietnam and south to Malaysia and greater Sundas. Now extinct in Malaysia and Indonesia. Lives in lowland freshwater rivers, lakes and marshes, up to 600 m.

IUCN RED LIST : CRITICALLY ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species is one of the most threatened. It is now extinct in many areas of its range because of overhunting, egg collection and habitat loss.
