Identification
Adults can grow to 24 cm in shell length, females being almost twice bigger than males. Brownish shell with three poorly defined black longitudinal keels. Olive-grey skin color with network of yellow lines and dots on sides of head and neck.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in Japan, South Korea, China (from the Yantze river to Guangzhou), Taiwan and Hong Kong. Lives in lowland marshes, slow-moving streams and lakes, in shallow waters.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species has disappeared from many areas of its range and only its introduced populations seem to remain stable at this time. Overexploited.
