Identification
Adults can reach a carapace length of 20 cm for a weight around 1.2 kg. High domed shell with flattened sides. Head is pink-orange to red with black speckles. Edges are black, brown to black back, shell orange, clear eyes.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in South East Asia, in a small area from Central Vietnam to Savannakhet province in Laos. Lives in upland moist evergreen forests, from 300 to 700 meters.

Conservation
IUCN RED LIST : CRITICALLY ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species has been collected to near extinction for food and pet trade. A conservation breeding programs exists in Cuc Phuong National Park.
