Identification
Adults can reach a carapace length up to 18 cm, female being much bigger than males. Sharp spine-like projections on shell center, serrated edges. Coloration greenish with intricate wavy yellow lines on shell, flanks, neck and head.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in North America and is endemic to Texas, being found in the Guadalupe and San Antonio river basins. Lives in slow-moving and shallow rivers with rocky and gravely bottom.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species has now a restricted range and is still at risk from habitat loss, fragmentation and disturbance, despite being afforded legal protection.
