Identification
Adults can grow to a leg-span of 13 cm. Blackish-brown cephalothorax with grey hairs on chelicerae and legs, brown hairs on flanks. Abdomen brown, becoming grey, faint spotting. Horn-like protrusion on rear of cephalothorax.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in southern Africa, around Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. Lives in lowland desert and arid savannas with monsoon-type climate.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species’ status has yet to be assessed but it appears to be quite common. It has been regularly collected and exported for the pet trade.
