Identification
Adults can grow to about 13 cm in length. Powerful claws and large thick tail. Coloration is usually shiny black. Claws and end of tail with dark reddish-brown coloration, sometimes appearing black. Sexual dimorphism very faint.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South East Asia, from Vietnam and Cambodia to Malaysia, Borneo and Philippines. Mostly found in humid tropical and subtropical forests.

Status : The species has a large range and is known to be locally common. It could be locally declining because of habitat loss and collection for trade.
