Identification
This species grows exceptionally to 4 cm in length but is generally shorter. Underside black, head with elongated trunk-like jaw. Males are black with red band on cephalothorax, females are orange with striped elytra and 4 large black dots.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South East Asia, from Myanmar and Vietnam to Malaysia and Greater Sundas. Lives in woodlands, palm tree plantations.

Status : The species’ status has not been assessed yet. Along with its close relative R. ferrugineus, it is considered as a crop pest worldwide.
