Identification
Adults can grow to 6-7 cm in wingspan. Abdomen and thorax mostly black with white underside. Wings are black (underwing is dark brown) with numerous pale turquoise spots, elongated close to the thorax. Underside shows 4 red spots.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs from Vietnam to Thailand. The species is found from Myanmar to Malaysia, Borneo, Sumatra, Java and the Palawan group of islands. Lives in primary rainforests and woodlands, mostly in lowlands.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species’ status hasn’t been assessed. It seems to be fairly common and can withstand habitat disturbance. Possibly endangered on islands.
