Identification
Adults can reach a wingspan of 11 cm. Body is black with red head, red rings on tip of abdomen and red flanks. Wings are long with club-like extensions. Velvet black color with faint red spots on upperside, brighter on underside.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in east Asia and is endemic to the Philippines, except from Palawan area. This subspecies occurs in central areas of Luzon. Lives in lowland forests, plantations and gardens in cities, also hillsides.

CITES : Not listed
Status : This species has a restricted range but is fairly common. Some subspecies with tiny ranges could be threatened by lack of resources (food plants).
