Identification
Adults can reach a wingspan up to 9 cm. Male very similar to V. dejone but less bright orange. Only two ocelli (not three) on hindwing) and no black spots at the rear of the forewing. Female also similar but darker with less visible ocelli.

Range and habitat
Subspecies found in Malaysia and Sumatra. Species occurs from south India and Sri Lanka to south China, south to western Indonesia and Philippines.
Lives around edges of primary and secondary forests, forest clearings.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species has a large range but some insular subspecies are probably endangered because of loss of habitat and clearing of vines for agriculture.
