Identification
Large butterfly growing to 12 cm in wingspan. Underside is brown and grey with two ocelli and white bands providing perfect camouflage on forest floor. Upperside is bright orange, becoming brown on forewings with a white bar.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in Peninsular Malaysia. Species also found from Myanmar and Thailand to Borneo. Lives in lowland and submontane tropical rainforests.

Status : Relying on primary forests makes this species potentially vulnerable to deforestation, at least in parts of its range. Status currently unknown.
