Identification
Adults grow to about 8 cm in length. Very similar to I. similis but told apart by a transversal black band cutting through the turquoise bands of the forewing cells. Black to dark brown coloration with light turquoise to white bands and spots.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in peninsular Malaysia and Sumatra. The species is found from Indochina to Singapore, Sumatra, Java, Borneo and Palawan. Lives in woodlands, coastal mangroves and urban gardens.

Status : The species has a large range and remains relatively common. It can tolerate living in man-made habitats and is believed to face no known threats.
