Identification
Adults can reach a wingspan of 7 cm. Body hairy and dark brown. Pointy snout. Upperside bright orange with black edges, yellow blotches. Underside dark grey with eye-spots and white blotches. No white spots on upperwing apex.
Range and habitat
Subspecies occurs in south Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. Species found from India to South-east Asia, to Indonesia, Solomon islands and north Australia. Lives in forests, sometimes urban parks, plantations and swamps.

Status : This species’ status has yet to be assessed by IUCN. It seems to be widespread and locally common. Some subspecies are probably endangered.
