Identification
Large and massive dome-shaped colonies, reaching sometimes more than 1 m in diameter. Valleys are closely compacted and meandroid. Mantle is extremely thick and covered with hair-like papillae. Coloration is grey-brown.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific region, from west Indonesia (Sumatra), north to Taiwan and Ryukyu Islands, south to North Australia and New Caledonia. Lives in clear water shallow reef environments, from 3 to 30 meters deep.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species isn’t widespread and generally uncommon. Its specialization in habitats requirement makes it very vulnerable to habitat loss.
