Identification
Colonies are massive but usually composed of few irregular and compacted corallites. Each corallite can reach a diameter of up to 4 cm and a depth of 1 cm. Walls are irregular in shape. Coloration brown to red with clear oral disks.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and Gulf of Aden to Micronesia, south Japan and north Australia. Lives in lagoons, outer reef channels and reef slopes, down to 25 meters deep.

IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is globally uncommon even before coral reefs started to be deteriorated by climate change and overharvesting of corals for the trade.
