Identification
Colonies display a very thick skeleton and can be up to 50 cm wide at least. Polyps are up to 5 cm wide, with green oral disk with radial stripes and thick but relatively short tentacles. A colony often looks like a packed group of large flowers.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Taiwan to north Philippines and Malaysia, then around northern and western Australia. Attached to solid substrate near sandy areas, usually under 20 meters deep.

IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species can survive habitat modification to a certain extent. It has a disjunct range and is occasionally collected for the trade.
