Notes : No subspecies known. Up to three subspecies are possible but their status is still debated.
Identification
The species can reach a body diameter of 10 cm for a height of 5 cm. Columnar body is soft and usually reddish brown. Very numerous tentacles (more than 300), thin, non retractable, and growing to 15 cm, green with pink to violet tips.
Range and habitat
This species occurs in eastern Atlantic Ocean, from Scotland to Canary Islands and in the Mediterranean sea. Found mostly on rocky bottoms, down to 25 meters deep.

Status : This species isn’t known to be threatened. Sea water pollution and parameter change could be long term threats but this isn’t proven yet.
