Identification
One of the largest jellyfishes, reaching up to 2 meters in bell diameter, sometimes even more. The species has up to 800 tentacles, some of which as as thin as hairs. Coloration varies with age, from white to nearly beige-orange.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in cold waters, in far northern Pacific and Atlantic oceans and most of the Arctic ocean. Pelagic species, occurring in cold waters at depths down to 20 meters.
