Identification
Body length of 2.50 m, shoulder height 1.30 m and weight up to 260 kg. Broader hooves than for other wild asses. Hair coloration is rich beige brown with white area around nose and whitish belt. White less extensive on belly and breast.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in south Mongolia and nearby north China. The species is also found in Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, in western India and in Iran. Lives in arid grasslands and semi desertic areas.

IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : This subspecies is legally protected like most populations of the species. It is still declining because of intense urbanization and related threats.
