Identification
Body length of 180 cm, shoulder height of 105 cm, weight up to 100 kg. Males display big antlers and are bigger than females. Fur is dark brown to reddish brown with white spots in summer, dull brown and spotless in winter.

Range and habitat
The subspecies occurs in eastern and north-eastern Asia, from Russian far east and Korea to north-east China. The species also occurs in most of China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan and Vietnam. Lives in lowland boreal forests and woodlands.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species’ taxonomic status is greatly debated but we know most of this subspecies’ populations are critically endangered because of habitat loss and hunting.
