Identification
The species grows to a body length of 145 cm, shoulder height of 94 cm and a weight of 50 kg. No distinct facial markings apart from blackish snout. Head greyish-brown, rest of fur uniform rufous brown. Antlers are growing vertically.
Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in China. Species also found from Kazakhstan and Russia to Siberia and Korea. Lives in forests with clearings, steppes with tall grasses, up to 3000 meters.

Status : The species has a large range but has declined in Russia because of widespread hunting and in China and Korea because of habitat loss.
