Identification
The species grows to 56 cm in body length for a weight of 2,5 kg. Very thin legs. Long snout. Coloration variable but usually brown to grizzled brown or even with olive tinge. White bands on breast and chin. Males with curved tusks.

Range and habitat
Subspecies endemic to north Borneo. Species found from Myanmar and Vietnam to Borneo, Sumatra and nearby satellite islands. Lives in undergrowth and edges of tall lowland forests, to 600 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species is still locally common but there are several issues such as the correct identification of populations and accurate threat assessments.
