Notes : 1 other subspecies known. Some taxonomic arrangements list no subspecies, others split this species in two. So far we follow the subspecies arrangement until the situation is clarified.

Identification
Body length of 110 cm, shoulder height of 60 cm, weight of 30 kg. Small curved horns, smallest goral species. Fur is predominantly reddish to orange-brown with clearer areas on throat and lower breast. Darker band on back.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in the Tibetan Plateau, south-west China. The species is also found in Assam and nearby northern Myanmar. Lives in coniferous mountain woodlands, from 2000 to 4500 m.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix I
Status : This species is declining in most of its range because of illegal hunting. Conversion of its habitat for agriculture is also a growing threat.
