Identification
Body length of 235 cm, shoulder height of 136 cm, weight of 275 kg. Largest waterbuck species, males bigger than females. Upward turned ringed horns for males. Subspecies grey with white throat and white ring-shaped marking on rump.
Range and habitat
This subspecies is found in eastern Africa, from south Somalia and east Kenya to north-east South Africa. Species also found from Senegal to Zambia. Lives in open grasslands, wooded savannas, often near water.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species has been declining throughout its range because of the conversion of its habitat for agriculture. Lives mostly in protected areas now.
